GENERAL INTRODUCTION OF WEST BENGAL

West Bengal is situated in India’s eastern region. It is one of the twenty-eight states of India. It is the thirteenth Indian state by land and the fourth most populous Indian state in India. It shares borders with Odisha to the southBihar to the northwestJharkhand to the westSikkim to the northAssam to the east. The Bay of Bengal washes its southern frontier. It also shares international borders with Nepal to the northwestBhutan to the north, and Bangladesh to the east.

Kolkata is the capital of the state. Like other states, Agriculture is the leading economic sector of West Bengal. The state’s principal food crop is rice and other crops are potato, jute, sugarcane and wheat. The major river of Bengal is the Ganges and also several more rivers such as Teesta, Torsa, Jaldaka and Mahananda flows in the state. Darjeeling is the main hill station of the state. The most widely spoken language is Bengali in the state.

At present, Mamata Banerjee is the Chief Minister of the state.
