GENERAL INTRODUCTION OF MEGHALAYA

Meghalaya is situated in India’s northeastern region. It is one of the twenty-eight states of India. It is the twenty-two largest State by land and the twenty-two most populous state in India. It shares borders with Assam to the north and east. It also shares an international border with Bangladesh to the south. It is one of the Seven Sister States of the northeast. Shilling, the capital of the state, has been called ‘Scotland of the East’ because of its elevation. Meghαlaya has three wildlife Sanctuaries and two National ParksCherrapunji is a famous tourist destination of the state.

Meghαlaya has many waterfalls such as Elephant FallsShadthum Falls, Bishop Falls, Nohkalikai Falls etc. Nohkalikai Falls is one of the tallest plunge-type waterfalls in India. Meghalaya has many limestone caves.

At present, Conrad Sangma is the Chief Minister of the state.
